The Gorge (2025) Review
The Gorge: A love story about the 2 hottest snipers on the planet who have to guard something dangerous far away from any civilization. Something like that.
I really liked the beginning up to about halfway through. The film has style, the main actors harmonize well. Then comes a kind of not horror enough horror part, which for me shattered that certain something, that uncertainty from the beginning, and took the movie in a different way.
The change of direction from suspense to horror featuring a conspiracy theory made the movie feel unrounded, especially as the actors just want to have fun and don't really convey a feeling of sheer horror or fear. In summary, this makes the movie seem rushed and fake, which is very unfortunate.
The love story between Levi and Drasa has been seen a thousand times before. Nevertheless, I liked the development of the couple, especially as they are currently some of the hottest newcomers in Hollywood. In other words: there's a lot for the eyes, even if not enough.
If I had made the movie, my focus would have been much more on suspense and romance. I probably would never have shown what was really in the fog, or saved it for the big bang at the end. But who listens to me?
Like other movies that aren't necessarily good but have something not really tangible special about them, I'll probably watch The Gorge again at some point. And that's saying something.
