My April 2025
Even if I (almost) didn't/don't write anything else, I'll just take a look back at what used to be. It was April 2025, an exciting month packed with looking for presents (my wife's birthday and Easter) and... well, that's actually it. And then there was the fact that both celebrations were on the same day, which resulted in a lot of stressful days, but they also had their positive side.
"My Month" is a cool series, by the way. I'm keeping this one. Here's my March review for anyone who missed it.
Weighty Easter
My weight loss odyssey continued in April. Sport had to take a back seat due to a lack of time, which was directly reflected in the 80 kg I was (and still am) stuck at. Things had been going downhill so well before. Anyway, I'm full of hope that it will soon go down again.
Apart from that, it's always the case - perhaps for everyone with children - that you have to spend hours and days and weeks thinking about what the children are getting and from whom - in this special case regarding Easter. For me, this is the most dreaded Excel list there is when my wife unpacks it several times during the year. I am, of course, eternally indebted to her for filling it out mostly on her own, but 20 - 30% of it always comes from me, which turns my last remaining hair gray.
And then the time had come, it was Easter-Birthday-Sunday. But the day was, as expected, more Easter than my wife's birthday. Nevertheless, we tried to make the best of it. And while the family was with us on Sunday, friends with lots and lots of children were with us on Monday. So 2 days of action and somehow also pure stress. Although it felt more like positive stress this time. I also thought the trip to a mine on Easter Monday was really cool and exciting. It was a great idea from my wife, and my friends and children thought so too.
I'm fighting more with my construction company again, as nothing else is happening in terms of rectifying the defects. And once you start working on it, you have to keep at it, because otherwise it will naturally fall asleep again.
Things are going quite well at work so far. I'm now working for a really great service provider for Microsoft products in Germany, advising customers, training them and managing projects. And after the 3 months - actually sooner - my boss trusts me to do almost anything. I appreciate that and really dig in. It's also fun to work with the various customers. I like the variety.
What I liked recently
Apps
A month dedicated to health. And more.
- AlcoGrip to track my nearly 0 alcohol consumption, which is then synced to Apple Health and Guava.
- Power Sync to automatically sync recorded data from Fitbit to Apple Health (Lifetime purchase).
- Mindful Coffee to track my caffeine consumption (sync to Apple Health and thus to Guava included).
- Fddb to monitor my food intake - and yes - sync to Apple Health and Guava. (Spoiler: I may switch to Yazio in May.)
- I had the Apple Music subscription extended once. It's currently my favorite music streaming service.
- I'm back with Todoist.
- I switched from FreshRSS to Feedbin. Simply because it's prettier and more fun to read feeds with.
- I've taken out a subscription for Recall. Probably the best app for really good summaries of articles that I would otherwise never get around to reading.
Games
Indiana Jones is still untouched on my Xbox. Just like Death Stranding. Actually great games, but there are always other good ones coming and time is short...
- Kingdom Come II has to take a back seat. Still brilliant, but a bit too difficult for me at the moment. I give up too quickly.
- I've started South of Midnight, maybe I'll finish it. And yes, I skip all the battles in the game, which I find very refreshing.
- Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is totally cool and after an hour I'm already stuck on an opponent. I need easier games...
- And when we talk about easier games... I bought Lushfoil Photography Sim on PC AND Xbox, so I won't be playing it in 2 places.
Movies
- Armour of God - not the best Jackie Chan movie, but still fun.
- Clash of the Titans - I remembered it better. On the other hand, I was still at least somewhat intrigued by the premise.
- Love Lies Bleeding - 2 beautiful women making out and killing people in a twisted psychedelic something. Crazy but good.
- Ice Age: The Meltdown - Not as good as part 1, but the kids liked it.
- Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves - One of the funniest and therefore best movies I've seen recently without knowing the original game.
- Bourne Identity - Still brilliant.
... and various Harry Potter films. A very successful month in terms of movies, I'd say.
TV
- The Rookie Season 7
- LOL Season 6
But I'm really looking forward to...
- Long Way Home
- The Last of Us Season 2 (I'm happy to wait until all the episodes are there to binge it)
Music
- April was largely characterized by "Things", a track by the Blue Man Group in collaboration with After Cooking. A track I've listened to a good 50 times. Is that actually enough? π€
Youtube
- CHIROPRACTOR DOES MIRACLE ON 'INCURABLE' WOMAN! ππ± | Back & Neck Pain Adjustment | Dr Tubio - Every two or three months I watch Knicki Knacki videos again and am impressed and dream of having myself twisted unhealthily so that I feel better afterwards.
- Roseanne - Dan has a heart attack - supposedly one of the best portrayals of a heart attack. Why I watch it - because my heart often "jumps" and I get worried.
- Long Way Home β Official Trailer | Apple TV+ - I first became aware of βLong Way Homeβ in April. A wonderful series up to that point, in which Ewan McGregor and his best friend Charley Boorman go on tours around the world on a wide variety of motorcycles. I'm really looking forward to this new season.
